With a view to provide an ideal platform for the IT Chiefs of various banks to deliberate upon technology-related concerns in the banking and financial sector and chart out a roadmap for the better future of banking, IDRBT organized the Conference of CIOs/GM (ITs) on March 10-11, 2014. Around 50 IT heads from both public and private sector banks participated in the 2-day event.
Starting the proceedings, Shri B. Sambamurthy, Director, IDRBT welcomed the CIOs of banks and other dignitaries who joined in the Conference. Addressing the gathering, he stressed that IT chiefs need to look beyond technology and align themselves with other business functions. He pointed out that technology could be useful in improving talent management, talent acquisition and in creating an IT infrastructure for online, real-time training, just the way online, real-time payment systems are carried out.
In his inaugural address, Shri MV Tanksale, CEO, IBA, spoke about how technology implementation enables banking reach the grassroots level. Shri Tanksale focused attention on issues pertaining to mobile banking, IT-Business alignment, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Financial Inclusion, etc.
Shri G. Padmanabhan, Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India delivered the keynote address on "Efficient Systems and Proficient Banks" and highlighted issues relevant in the present day context for CIOs of banks. He opined that the future of banking in India would be primarily driven by critical elements like human capital and technology and urged banks to reorient their strategies in terms of HR, innovative capabilities, standardizing data quality, providing relevant information on information and analytics, mobile banking as a delivery channel, achieving financial inclusion and most importantly information security against cyber attacks.
Dr. Gulshan Rai, Director General, CERT-IN spoke on Current Cyber Threats. Expressing concern over the increasing number of cyber attacks, he cautioned about the emerging cyber warfare, cyber espionage that has brought cyberspace under siege. Later, Shri Padmanabhan and Dr. Gulshan Rai launched the new "Information Security Incident Tracker".
Finally, the talk on Cyber Security - National Security Perspective by Brig. A Ghosh, Director, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), highlighted the criticality of safeguarding various sectors especially banking from cyber frauds.
